PROJECTS

ACAPE is currently working on the renovation of Nyumba primary school. This school was built back in 1945, by the local Catholic Church. Almost 70 years later, those buildings that house more than 2000 children are “old-growth” and constitute a hazard for those children.

From the top of the hill of Gishamvu, Mama Cecile could see every day the school aging and felt she had to do something: to refurbish the school and help those children study in the proper environment.

The project is important to Mama Cecile because it is the school that trained all her children and grandchildren, this is the school that is in her life, because she says, “When the bell rings for the start or after school, it gives me the impression of an eternal beginning, and when I see the kids play in the playground, I savor again the taste of life. Only children can give us such pleasure. Providing children with education is to guarantee the future of an entire nation”, she said.”
The refurbishment of the Nyumba primary school will cost about 250,000 euros. A French–based NGO, ADESAF ( Association pour le developement economique en Afrique francophone: http://www.adesaf.fr/ ) is helping raise the funds. Construction work should start soon.
